Empathy is a crucial skill that forges understanding and builds strong connections in relationships, including the parent-child relationship. What empathy isn’t, it is not about feeling bad for another individual. Empathy is about taking the extra step to slow down, recognize the emotions of others and simultaneously keep a mindful awareness of our own.
Also, asking questions so that we can get a fuller glimpse into the other’s world is empathy. It seeks to build that bridge, and allow us to ultimately respond appropriately to others needs. Flex your empathy as you and your child explore this box, because the good news is, empathy can be learned and perfected with each practice you get.
